The decorative inspirations of Scotland

During my studies, I was able to go to Scotland for a year to study. This allowed me to discover a culture, customs and trends in terms of clothing but also in terms of decoration. Here is a list of what comes to us from Scotland in terms of interior design.

• Inspirations from the Highlands 

How can we talk about Scottish decoration without mentioning the Tartan, that squared pattern so distinctive of the country, originally present on kilts, it is now exported for decoration. But not only! This region of the Highlands with its rugged mountain scenery, moorland fields and rugged coastlines inspires. What will this bring to the decoration? Natural materials such as sheep, comfortable plaids, grid patterns and a masculine, rustic atmosphere.

- The colours 

To adopt the Highlands style you should opt for earthy colours with autumn tones such as brown, ochre, rust, red and green, they promote a warm atmosphere in the house.

- The materials 

For the rustic touch, it is best to choose natural materials such as the famous sheepskin with a vintage leather sofa. To harmonize the whole, choose a solid wood coffee table, a sideboard and a large wooden chest. Favour materials that inspire warmth: wood, copper, leather and wool.

• The trend of the Coorie 

Coorie, the Scottish art of living, is practised in harmony with its environment. It is a way of life that offers us a balance between inside and outside. A new wellness trend, it succeeds the Danish hygge and the Swedish lagom. Let's discover this new phenomenon together.

To live in a cooriental way is to enjoy being curled up on your couch under a good blanket by the fire. With a cup of tea in hand, attention is focused on reading or contemplating one's interior, simple decorative objects reminiscent of nature, objects found in flea markets, souvenirs offered by friends or family. It also means loving handmade goods, such as knitting, crocheting, sewing.
